Connecting Google Hangouts Chat to Automate.io

There are two methods to connect Google Hangouts Chat to Automate.io.

Method 1:
Go to APPS in your dashboard. Click the blue ‘+’ button on the top-right. You will see a ‘Add a new app’ pop-up. 

Search for Google Hangouts Chat in the search box. Select Google Hangouts Chat. You will see a window that prompts you to validate the app.

Sign in with your login details then click Allow to give Automate.io access to your Google Hangouts account. If you have already signed in before, select the account with which you want to proceed. 

Then hit Save. You now have successfully connected your Google Hangouts Chat account to Automate.io.

Method 2:
While creating a Bot, you can directly connect Google Hangouts Chat as an Action app. Refer to 'Connecting the Action app' in How to create a Bot.

Using Google Hangouts Chat with Automate.io

Now that the connection is successful, it’s time for the real fun—creating bots to automate your tasks. You will need to set up a trigger and action(s) to do that.

How to use Google Hangouts Chat in your Bot?

1. In your Bot, select 'Google Hangouts Chat' as your Action app and 'Send Message' as your Action. You will see the following Input fields.

2. Time to set up your Webhook URL. For that, go to https://chat.google.com/.
3. Select the person or room to which you want to send the message.
4. Click the drop-down menu at the top of the page and select 'Configure webhooks'.

5. Under 'Incoming webhooks', name your webhook as 'Automate.io' and paste an avatar URL. Then, click Save.

6. Copy your webhook URL and paste it in the 'Webhook URL' Input field in your Bot.

7. Now, enter text in the 'Message Text' field. If necessary, fill the other optional fields. Here, you can even take the help of the Output fields from your trigger app.

When you're done, proceed to save and test your Bot. 

You can integrate Google Hangouts Chat with so many of your favorite apps—support, collaboration, payments, forms, etc.
