TL;DR version:

Two-factor authentication(2FA) is an extra layer of security which provides a greater level of protection to your Automate.io account. With this enabled, you will need a code generated on your phone in addition to your email ID and password if you want to access your account.

  1. To enable 2FA, on your dashboard go to My Account -> Security settings and turn 2FA to ON.
  2. Download your desired authenticator app on your phone, and scan the bar code or enter the provided key on the Setup 2FA popup.
  3. Now, enter your account password and the 6-digit verification code from your authenticator app, and click Proceed.
  4. 2FA is enabled successfully. Copy or download the recovery codes from the popup for future use.

Detailed version:

What is Two-Factor Authentication?

Two-factor authentication(2FA) is an extra layer of security to your Automate.io account. It provides a greater level of protection than single-factor authentication(SFA), which requires just an email ID and password to access your account. A 2FA, on the other hand, requires access to your mobile phone to log in to your account, in addition to your password.

With 2FA, anyone who wants to access your account would need both your password and an access code generated on your phone. This means that even if somebody stole your account password, they would be unable to access your account without the code generated on your phone.

We highly recommend you to enable two-factor authentication on your Automate.io account.

How to enable two-factor authentication on my Automate.io account?

Login to your account as usual.

On the dashboard, next to your username, click the drop-down button. Select My Account.

Scroll down to Security Settings and toggle Enable two-factor authentication to ON.

A popup appears to help you set it up. Click the blue anchor text, here link.

It will take you to the Install Google Authenticator page. You can also use Authy which is another authenticator app. But we recommend you to download Google Authenticator as it is universal. Download the app to your Android or iOS phone.

Open the app on your phone. Click Begin on the first screen.

The app will prompt you to add your account. You can do that in 2 methods.

Method 1: Scan a bar code

Click Scan a bar code in the app.

Click Next Step on your Automate.io account. You will see the below popup.

Point your phone at the bar code. A 6-digit verification code will be generated by the app.

Now, on the popup, under CURRENT PASSWORD, enter your account password.

Under VERIFICATION CODE, enter the 6-digit code generated by the app. Remember that a new verification code is generated every 30 seconds. So, you have 30 seconds to enter the code. You don’t have to memorize the code. If you missed the current code, you don’t have to worry. Just type the next generated code.

After entering the code, click Proceed. You will see a popup which tells you that you have successfully enabled 2FA.

You will also see a bunch of recovery codes. Copy or download them now in case you cannot retrieve your 2FA codes in the future.

Note: You should also type the hyphen (-) while typing your recovery code.

Method 2: Enter a provided key.

Click Enter a provided key in the app.

Click Next Step on your Automate.io account. You will see the below popup.

On your phone, under Enter account details, type your account name and the text code(which is below the bar code in the popup). And click ADD.

You will see a screen which says Account added. And a 6-digit code is generated.

  1. We suggest you to save these codes somewhere safely.
